Is
Staff different than Volunteering?
Yes, being on
Program Staff is different than volunteering. Both require a lot
of work, but you also get to have a lot of fun. Volunteers
generally stay for one week and do not get paid, program staff are
expected to spend the whole summer at camp and recieve a small
stipend.
What does Program Staff do?
Program staff stays the entire summer on the mountain
working
together to create an environment that is friendly and exciting. Some
of the staff responsiblities are running evening program, leading faith
discovery as well as activites, and just having fun.
What will be expected
to do on Staff?
One of the givens at Horton Center is
"Have Fun". Being on staff you get to enjoy things like rock climbing,
campfires, singing, canoeing, as well as hiking the White Mountains.
Not only will you enjoy the outdoors but also enjoy things like
splatter painting, candle making, and making bracelets. While
having fun is very important, you also will be working with, and living
with children and youth all summer long. You will learn
supervision, discipline, activity planning, and many skills that you
can use for the rest of your life. It is a lot of work, but many
adults look back to an experience at camp in their youth and see it as
a formative experience. You, as a staff member, get to have a
huge impact on the lives of others. And, of course, you get to
have fun while doing that!
